Oil Barons add Bob Beatty to coaching staff

The Fort McMurray Oil Barons rounded out their coaching staff on Tuesday when the club announced the hiring of veteran Junior A coach Bob Beatty.

Beatty will join newly named Head Coach & General Manager Dave Dupas’ coaching staff as an Associate Coach this upcoming season.

“I’m excited to come to Fort McMurray and join a very respected organization,” said Beatty. “The Oil Barons are always competitive within the AJHL and have a proven track record of moving players on to the next level. I look forward to working with Dave and the rest of his staff this season.”

The La Ronge, Saskatchewan native brings over 21 years of Junior A coaching experience to the MOB. Beatty began his coaching career with the SJHL’s Humboldt Broncos in the 1996-97 season. He spent eight years with the Broncos, highlighted by an SJHL championship and a National Junior A Championship title in 2003.

From there, Beatty moved on to the La Ronge Ice Wolves where he guided his club to back to back SJHL Championships in 2010 and 2011.

“We’re excited to welcome Bob to our organization,” said Oil Barons Head Coach and General Manager Dave Dupas. “Bob’s an experienced coach that has won on Junior A’s highest stage. His knowledge and coaching experience will be extremely valuable to our organization as we gear up for the season ahead.”

After nine seasons with the Ice Wolves, Beatty moved on to the BCHL where he and Dupas coached against one another for a couple seasons. Dupas was the Head Coach of the Prince George Spruce Kings and Beatty coached the Cowichan Valley Capitals. Beatty was the Head Coach of the Capitals for four seasons and most recently served as the Head Coach of the Shawnigan Lake School’s Bantam prep team for the past two seasons.
