Recycling roundup for residents this weekend

The Municipality unveiled a full weekend of recycling events to assist residents with the disposal of hazardous waste and large household items.

June 1 is the day for the annual Household Hazardous and Electronic Waste Roundup.

Evergreen Community Christian Reformed Church is once again the site for residents to safely drop off materials with municipal staff and volunteers.

Leftover or forgotten products such as paints, adhesives, cleaning agents and solvents, and automotive fluids clog household shelves.

They contain chemicals that could harm the environment if not disposed of in a safe manner.

Furthermore, small children could find these products in shiny and weird bottles in your home.

These products could potentially make them sick.

The RMWB is also collecting electronic waste that day.

E-Waste like televisions, monitors, printers, and microwaves contain heavy metals.

Similar to household hazardous waste, one can’t drop off these products for curbside pickup.

The Roundup begins Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Evergreen Church on 101 Tundra Drive in Thickwood.

A full list of acceptable items is available online.

Staying on the subject of e-waste, larger appliances and electronics have unique rules for disposal.

So, the Municipality scheduled the first of their free Big Bin events for Sunday, June 2.

Drop off large furniture, appliances, and even yard waste with municipal staff at the corner of MacDonald Ave. & Morrison St.

There is a $42.90 fee for CFC removal from items such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and water cooling units.

Also, mattresses and box springs are subject to a disposal fee of $20 per item.

Big Bin events run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There are additional Big Bin events scheduled throughout the month of June:

  • Vista Ridge, Saprae Creek on June 8.
  • Municipal Office at the Anzac Rec Centre, Anzac on June 15.
  • Community Mail Boxes, Gregoire Lake Estates on June 22.
  • Recycling Depot at Brett Drive, Fort McMurray on June 29.

Have photo ID and proof of address before depositing items at these events.
