RMWB lift fire ban as wildfire danger is now low

Last Updated Jun 4, 2019 at 12:12 pm MDT

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has lifted the fire ban in the Urban Service Area.

Wildfire danger is now moderate due to cooler temperatures and rain fall.

Residents are reminded that all open fires in the Urban Service Area, including recreational fire pits, require a permit from Regional Emergency Services.

The provincial fire ban and Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) restriction that was put in place on May 17, 2019 remains in effect, however Alberta Wildfire does anticipate on lifting it sometime today.

Until the ban is officially lifted, the fine for failing to extinguish an open outdoor fire is $287 and the fine for operating an OHV where prohibited is $575.00.

There are currently no fires causing a threat near Fort McMurray. Smoke in the Fort McMurray Area is drifting in from fires in northern Alberta.

If you experience respiratory difficulties, visit Alberta Health Link or dial 811.
