The Golden Bed Pan Trophy is up for grabs once again!

The Northern Lights Health Foundation (NLHF) announced they’re accepting registrations for the second annual Hospital Bed Race.

Jessica Lipton, Events Manager for the NLHF, says this year’s event will be bigger and better.

“We’re going to host the event in the upper-level parking lot over on the Snye. We’re going to have a family barbeque, bouncy castle, [and] lots of opportunity for sponsors to get involved and have a presence at the event.”

Lipton adds Raymond James returned to be the races’ main sponsor.

The event is still in the planning stages, however, Lipton credits the great turnout from 2018 will carry over.

Teams of five can register or donate on the health foundation’s website.

On race day, four members will push a hospital bed with one member riding on it across an improvised 100-metre track.

Also, leading up to the race, on September 28, 2019, teams raise up to $2,500 with proceeds going to support local health care.

Prizes will go to teams with the most spirit, the craziest outfits, raise the most funds, and win the race.

New this year is a race for teenagers!

Titled the Junior Grand Prix, kids between the ages of 14-17 can register squads.

Jessica Lipton says residents can be quite inventive showing their team spirit.

“Last year, we saw some really creative teams out there, so we’re really looking forward to seeing what people come up with this year.”

Teams raised $51,000 for local health care last year with 25 individuals and businesses making donations.

The funds exceeded the NLHF’s $30,000 goal.

Finning Canada were the inaugural winners of the Golden Bed Pan.
