Police nab excessive speeders and one impaired driver over long weekend

Police were busy on the roads over over the Canada Day long weekend, issuing 179 tickets for various reasons.

The Wood Buffalo Integrated Traffic Unit was out doing traffic safety operations between June 28 and July 1.

Of the 179 tickets, four were given to drivers going excessive speeds up to 186 km/h in a posted 110 km/h zone.

Other drivers were given tickets for going 172 km/h, 166 km/h and 168 km/h all in posted 110 km/h zones.

On top of the tickets, police also issued three Criminal Code Charges, including one for driving while impaired by alcohol, failure or refusal to comply with a demand, and driving while prohibited under the Criminal Code of Canada.
