Police note rise of vehicular theft in Wood Buffalo

Wood Buffalo RCMP had a busy spring investigating stolen vehicles and theft from vehicles.

Police noticed a marked increase in such crimes in the region since May 15, 2019.

During that time, they reported 59 thefts from motor vehicles along with 51 stolen vehicles.

In order to curb vehicular theft and theft of valuables, RCMP reminds residents to keep their vehicles locked and secure.

Remove valuables such as wallets, purses, cash, smartphones, and tools or keep them out of sight.

Don’t leave vehicles running unattended.

Also, never store spare keys or firearms in a vehicle under any circumstance.
