TORONTO — A star-studded feature documentary on Canadian superstar music producer David Foster is in the works.
Bell Media Studios and Melbar Entertainment Group say “David Foster: Off the Record” is in post-production and will have a theatrical run before airing on CTV and Crave.
Broadcast details and theatrical release dates have yet to be announced.
Producers say Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Michael Buble, Lionel Richie, Quincy Jones and Clive Davis are among the musical megastars who will appear in the film.
Actress-singer Katharine McPhee, whom Foster recently married, also appears.
Toronto filmmaker Barry Avrich directed the doc, which includes archival footage and gives a behind-the-scenes look at the 16-time Grammy Award-winning producer and composer.
The film also looks ahead to Foster’s future work on Broadway.
Born in Victoria, Foster has worked with some of the biggest musical acts of all time and has 50 Top 20 hits — as well as three Oscar nominations — to his name.
A news release says “the film follows Foster’s relentless ambition, hunger and rise to the top, as he becomes an iconic producer and songwriter.”
“I have spent a near half century devoted to making music and discovering talent all over the world so now it becomes a very daunting, emotional, and cathartic experience giving in to the process of having a film made about your life,” Foster said in a statement.
“I am both excited and nervous but most of all I hope that this film may serve as a guide to inspire young artists, songwriters, musicians and producers to relentlessly pursue their dreams and creative talents.”
