Wildfire danger very high prompting fire advisory

Alberta Wildfire enacted a fire advisory for the Fort McMurray Forest Area.

Officials also set the wildfire danger level to very high.

However, in the area north of Lake Athabasca, the danger level is extreme.

Warmer temperatures also led officials to enact the fire advisory.

Therefore, Regional Emergency Services will not issue any new fire permits.

Firefighting updates

The Alberta Wildfire app reports nine wildfires in Wood Buffalo.

Lightning strikes started all the wildfires currently in the region.

Although, none threaten any values at risk.

Responders announced they hold eight wildfires and have one under control.

Information Officer, Lynn Daina, said 52 firefighters using nine helicopters and heavy equipment are at work combatting the fires.
