CALGARY (660 NEWS) – It’s going to be a scorcher across much of the Prairies Monday.
Environment Canada has issued heat warnings for much of northern Alberta and the southeastern part of the province.
Parts of Saskatchewan and Manitoba are also under heat warnings.
Heat warnings are issued when daytime highs reach 30 degrees or higher accompanied by lows of 14 to 16 degrees.
According to meteorologist Kyle Foujere with Environment Canada, everyone experiences the extreme heat differently.
“People should definitely monitor themselves for symptoms of heatstroke or heat exhaustion such as high body temperature, they have a lack of sweat when they’re really hot, confusion, fainting or even unconsciousness can occur when you get to the more extreme conditions.”
Foujere recommends you drink plenty of water and take as many breaks as possible if you’re in an area where a heat warning has been issued.
The hot weather will likely cause issues in northwestern Alberta where wildfires continue to burn.
The Chuckegg Creek wildfire, near High Level, is still burning out of control and has led to several evacuations since April.

As for the rest of the week, while there will be a slight reprieve from the heat, it won’t be long before it’s back.
“The rain continues to come through on Wednesday, lingering for the eastern parts of the province into Thursday,” said Foujere. “Then as we get into Friday, Saturday, that ridge builds again and we expect it to be warmer and drier again.”
