Pride YMM is hosting the region’s third annual pride week in August.

Caitlin Downie, Pride YMM committee member, said they decided to celebrate later in the year as opposed to June for pride month to avoid competition with bigger events.

New this year is an opening ceremony on Sunday, August 18 also at Jubilee Plaza.

The main event will be on Saturday, Aug. 24 from noon till 4 p.m. also at Jubilee Plaza.

“That’s the pride celebration. There will be live music, activities, kids crafts, games, food and information booths with our community partners.”

Downie welcomes people to show up throughout the week.

“There is events really for anyone and everyone, from individual events, events that are 18+, there is ones for youth and teens and there is also a lot of activates that are family friendly. “

Pride is a time to celebrate and recognize how far the community has come in terms of inclusion and the work still needed to be done.

“We really encourage people to just come and support the community, whether you are apart of the LGBTQ+ community or not.”
