RCMP reports nearly 50 vehicles stolen in July

Wood Buffalo RCMP has reported an increase in stolen vehicles and theft from vehicles.

In July alone there were 38 reported thefts from vehicles and 49 vehicles stolen.

Inspector Shane Tamteemal said in a statement that residents can help prevent these crimes.

“In the majority of these thefts, keys were left in the car or ignition, and valuables were left in plain sight by owners, this makes your vehicle an easy target.”

You’re reminded to keep your vehicle locked and to keep your valuables like tools, cell phones and wallets out of sight if you’re leaving them unattended.

Never keep your keys or firearms stored in a vehicle and never keep a vehicle running while unattended.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
