The Fort McMurray Giants will play their home games at Legacy Dodge Field.

The Regional Recreation Corporation (RRC) and Legacy Dodge christened the baseball field at Shell Place.

RRC CEO Graig Walsh made the announcement in an afternoon ceremony prior to the Giants regular-season finale.

“Associating a community partner like Legacy Dodge to this very popular amenity is a major win for the region and highlights the continued support of sport and recreation.”

Also part of the new partnership between the RRC and Legacy Dodge is a donation of $12,500 to the WB Kids Program.

The program allows youth and families, which face financial barriers, to participate in sports, activities, and cultural programs.

“This is one of the most spectacular ball diamonds that I’ve been to in Canada,” said RRC CEO Graig Walsh. “It’s fitting to have an amazing partner like Legacy Dodge coming on board to be the sponsor of Legacy Dodge Field.”

Legacy Dodge will own the naming rights for the next five years.

When the Giants aren’t in town, Legacy Dodge Field will host games for the Fort McMurray Minor Baseball Association.

New name, new memories

General manager Mike Brown said they’re excited to partner with the RRC.

“This is really a hub that everybody seems to gather to in Fort McMurray. We’re a family-based and family-owned dealership that’s proud to be local. We honestly believe this is the best place to be, so we want to do our part to make sure that’s true.”

Since its development in 2015, the field hosted local, regional, and national events.

The field welcomed athletes for 2016 Baseball Canada Cup and the 2018 Wood Buffalo Alberta Winter Games Opening Ceremonies.

Legacy Dodge Field will host the next Baseball Canada Cup in August 2020.

“The new Legacy Dodge Field is another great example of how this world class facility is making our community a better place for the families of Fort McMurray.” Brown said. “That is exactly the same vision that we have at Legacy Dodge.”

Brown added Legacy Dodge would continue to seek opportunities to support local businesses.
