Mounties were notified in April of someone uploading child porn video involving a man and a seven-year-old girl to the internet. RCMP called in Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams’ (ALERT) Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) in July and a full investigation was launched.

ALERT says the investigation led them to Ghassan Alnaami, 47, who had been a pediatrician in Edmonton and Fort McMurray. However, ICE detectives say that there is no information to suggest any crimes involved Alnaami’s patients and it is not believed that the man in the video is Alnaami.

Alnaami is charged with possession and transmission of child pornography. He has been released from custody on a number of conditions, including not having contact with anyone under 16 and not having a job where he is in a position of trust or has authority over anyone under 16.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta is asking Alnaami to withdraw from his practice while he’s under investigation.

While officers continue to comb through the evidence, ICE asks anyone who may have additional information about this case to come forward.

Alnaami is expected to appear in court on Sept. 5.
