Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to the Snye river on reports of an apparent drowning at 8:00 a.m. this morning.
According to those reports, a man entered the water to assist his friend, who was in distress.
His friend became exhausted as he tried to swim back to shore.
The man successfully retrieved his friend but drowned in the attempt.
Police along with Fort McMurray Search and Rescue and Regional Emergency Services conducted a search and recovered the man’s body this afternoon.
