Wood Buffalo Economic Development Corporation (WBEDC) has appointed Michael Sieger as their new Executive Director of Tourism.

In March Fort McMurray Tourism voted to merge with the WBEDC.

Kevin Weidlich, CEO of WBEDC, says after an extensive search they chose Sieger for the job because of his background in meeting and convention space in the hotel sector.

Sieger is bringing over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry from Edmonton where he was the VP of Nova Hotels and was on the Board of Directors of Alberta Hotel & Lodging Association and held a director role with Edmonton Tourism.

In a press release Sieger shared the following: “now I start a new journey as my family joins me in embracing a new life in Fort McMurray. I am truly excited at the opportunity to work with the tourism team at Wood Buffalo Economic Development Corporation and our numerous industry partners in the accommodation, attraction and product development sector. The region of Wood Buffalo has a unique story to tell, we have an excellent opportunity to embrace its past, share our present and explore our future together. Working in collaboration we will share a story and vision that is authentic, sincere and inspiring.”
