Direct Energy and Direct Energy Regulated Services donated $2500 to YMCA Wood Buffalo.
Company representatives presented the non-profit organization with a cheque during Bounce-A-Palooza on August 24.
This is their second donation to the YMCA since December 2018.
In total, Direct Energy and Direct Energy Regulated Services donated $6000.
Community spirit
The funds will support YMCA programs, services, training and child-care.
They also provide employment and health and fitness services.
Gary Newcombe, Vice President, Government and Regulatory Affairs Canada for Direct Energy, said the company is proud to be part of Fort McMurray.
“The service [YMCA Wood Buffalo] provides benefits not only individuals and families but Fort McMurray as a whole.”
Newcombe added they continue to support organizations helping families throughout the province.
Attending the weekend event was Wendy Tynan, Direct Energy Senior Manager of Public Affairs.
She said that YMCA Wood Buffalo also reflects their values of supporting families.
“We’re so aware of the great work that the YMCA in Wood Buffalo does, and it really connects with our [values] of supporting families, investing in youth, and creating new opportunities.”
Sonya Earle, Regional Manager of YMCA Wood Buffalo, said they’re pleased with the support from Direct Energy and Direct Energy Regulated Services.
She added their partnership during the 2019 YMCA Giving Campaign helps to meet critical needs in the community.
“[This donation] will provide an opportunity for individuals who require financial support to access our programs and services, and will make a significant difference in our ability to provide unique programs and life-enhancing opportunities for the growth and development of families in Wood Buffalo.”
Direct Energy and Direct Energy Regulated Services hosted Bounce-A-Palooza at Macdonald Island Park.
Wendy Tynan, Direct Energy Senior Manager of Public Affairs, said they anticipate as many as 500-600 people attended the carnival.
“I know that within the first 90 minutes, we’ve given out 300 popsicles to very happy children and had to run to the store to reload hundreds more.”
The free, family-friendly carnival featured bouncy castles, games, and treats for all ages.
Tynan said they hope to stage another pop-up event by the end of the year.
