The annual TELUS Motorcycle Ride for Dad raised over $12,000 for prostate cancer research and awareness.
The ride, which was held on Aug. 24, saw 58 riders on 53 bikes, along with one dog.
While in past years riders have travelled to Conklin, Rob Sheppard, an organizer of the ride along with Eddie McCann, said this year they decided to to Wandering River.
Sheppard said he got involved after participating in Edmonton’s Motorcycle Ride for Dad in 2012.
He said the experience made him want to do the same in our region.
“Men don’t particularly like the thought of having their prostate checked, but we like to encourage them to have it done because early detection is key to beating it.”
Sheppard added they’re always looking for committee members and donations are always welcome.
This year they had six volunteers and he said they “could have used another six for sure.”
Over six years, the event has raised over $185,000.
Since the event launched nationwide in 2000, more than 33 million dollars has been donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
