As a true labour of love, members of the community supported the Northern Lights Health Foundations (NLHF) Gratitude Campaign to help fund much needed renovations to the hospitals pallative care suites.
Construction began on Sept. 9 on the third floor of the medicine ward of the hospital with each of the donors and construction leaders getting a tour to learn more about the importance of improvements being made to the suites.
The long-awaited project will ensure the hospital has proper rooms for end of life care where family can visit and stay with loved ones in comfort. Plans include three suites each with a patient room, a family room, and a shared bathroom. There will also be a secure family lounge to provide a quiet refuge.
Alberta Health Services and the NLHF were proud to announce the naming of the block of suites as the Jeremy Snook Memorial Pallative Suites.
Snook passed away of brain cancer at the age of 19 and his parents, Brian and Gail Snook took that tragedy and helped launched the project in his memory. They held a memorial raffle for three years raising almost $330,000 and were instrumental in securing secure another $330,000 in funding from family, friends and businesses towards the project.
Other suites will include the RE/MAX Fort McMurray suite in honour of long time resident and local business owner Lance Bussieres, The Fouts Family Suite, in honour of co-owner of Stony Valley Dan and his wife Janet Fouts and the Imperial Oil suite for their contributions and support of the Gratitude Campaign.
The project is expected to cost approximately $1.7 Million and be finished around July 2020.
