Council voted to schedule a public hearing on the User Fees, Rates and Charges bylaw for October 22, 2019.
According to the proposal, the motion calls for an average increase of 17 per cent.
This would affect most rates from sports field rentals to permit applications for work camps.
However, the administration found the RMWB’s fees were 25 per cent lower than other provincial jurisdictions.
Also, they said the Municipality would see additional revenue of $3.1-million enter the proposed 2020 Operating Budget.
Mayor Don Scott said it was a long time since the RMWB last adjusted rates.
“Nothing is done yet. [The public hearing] is going to happen on October 22, and I would encourage everyone to come out for that.”
If passed, adjusted rates would come into effect on January 1, 2020.
As for programs and services beginning in fall and winter, their new rates would become effective on July 1, 2020.
RMWB Council also observed a presentation from Integrity Commissioner Jim Peacock and received a positive second-quarter report from Financial Services.
