Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh took part in the first national debate of the 2019 federal election calendar Thursday night.

Hosted by Maclean’s and Citytv, the two-hour debate centred on four major themes: the economy, energy and the environment, Indigenous issues and, lastly, foreign policy.

Part 1 of 8: The debate kicks off and the first topic on the docket is one that affects all Canadians — the economy. The leaders are also asked about Quebec’s Bill 21, which prohibits some public sector workers from wearing religious symbols such as hijabs, turbans and kippas at work.



Part 2 of 8: May, Scheer and Singh debate and discuss Canada’s relationship with Indigenous peoples, and the government’s role in Indigenous issues.



Part 3 of 8: CityNews Edmonton reporter Courtney Theriault sits down with First Nations chiefs in Enoch Cree Nation to discuss what the leaders had to say about Indigenous issues in Canada.
