First Nations organization Acden received top honours at the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Awards of Excellence.

At the Sept. 13 ceremony, Acden won the Indigenous Employer of the Year award for 2018.

President and CEO, Garry Flett said the award motivates their corporation to continue training apprentices for success in the industry.

“High demand for workers with specific skills and expertise is why the attention and success of our trade shadow and apprenticeship programs remain a paramount focus for Acden.”

Acden received a nomination from members of the Alberta Indigenous Apprenticeship Project team.

The award recognizes Acden for its recruitment and training of Indigenous apprentices to strengthen and diversify the industry.

Formed in 1994, Acden runs 17 construction, energy, resource, and environmental companies.

It also has at least 1900 employees.
