Wood Buffalo received a five-bloom bronze rating at this year’s National Communities in Bloom awards in Yarmouth, N.S.
This is the 12th year our region secured a five-bloom rating in the International Challenge Large category.
Joining Wood Buffalo in the category are Barrie, Ont., Coquitlam, B.C., and Lexington, KY, in the United States.
European municipalities such as Halesowen, West Midlands, U.K., and Székesfehérvár-Fejér, Hungary also participated.
On the right path
Joanne Fisher, Chair of the Wood Buffalo Communities in Bloom committee, says the distinction is a spectacular result.
“It is proof that our municipality, our administration, and our Council are on the right path in building sustainable and environmentally conscious communities that will emerge as national and international leaders.”
Wood Buffalo also received an honourable mention for public art programs in parks.
Fort McMurray plans to host next year’s National and International Communities in Bloom Symposium and Awards.
The city won the right to host in 2016.
Communities In Bloom is a non-profit organization promoting civic pride, environmentalism, and beautification through community involvement and national competition.
