Legion to honour Métis Korean War veteran

Family and friends will gather at Abasand Cemetery to pay final respects to Métis war veteran, Leo MacDonald.

Representatives from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 165 and McMurray Métis Local 1935 will also be present for this public ceremony.

Leo MacDonald fought in Korea in 1953 serving in the Royal Highlanders of Canada, commonly known as  ‘The Black Watch’.

The ceremony features remarks from his family, Branch Legion President Pat Duggan and Padre Robert Parmenter.

Also, The Last Post Fund will present a special headstone to mark MacDonald’s final resting place.

The charity provides financial support for funerals and memorials for veterans without marked graves.

Following the ceremony at Abasand Cemetery, attendees are welcome back at the Legion.

The memorial for Leo MacDonald begins at 1:00 p.m. on Oct. 5, 2019.
