Brace yourselves: Winter Maintenance Zones (WMZ) return to the RMWB on Oct. 15, 2019.

Watch for on-street parking restrictions from that day until April 15, 2020.

However, the Municipality will relax all zones with parking restrictions not in effect during the relaxation period.

Follow posted signage along streets in residential areas, and keep up to date with email alerts and WMZ progress through the Municipality’s website.

Residents may also find zone and subzone information here.

WMZ is an early sign of changing seasons.

Ground rules

There are five WMZ among Fort McMurray’s residential neighbourhoods.

Furthermore, there are four subzones numbered one through four.

On a day one WMZ is active, some subzones within that zone will receive servicing.

Residents may park in the other relaxed subzones to avoid tickets or possible towing of their vehicles.

On-street parking, while areas are active, won’t be available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Impeding Snow removal may result in vehicles parked in those zones or subzones being ticketed or towed.

The Municipality may relax zones if less than five centimetres of snow falls or builds as snowpack on the roads.

Finally, for public safety don’t approach equipment on the roads and use extreme caution in areas of active maintenance.

Motorists must follow a safe distance away from road equipment to allow space for visibility.
