The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is holding two public hearings for a project south of Fort McMurray next month.

The hearing for the Hangingstone oilfield management facility will be held in Calgary, while the project is about 25 to 40 km south of town in the lower Athabasca region.

Pure Environmental Waste Management Ltd. submitted the application for approval in February.

The request is for the construction and operation of two disposal wells, two deep salt caverns, along with processing and separation equipment.

The caverns would be used to store upstream oil and gas waste with no hydrogen sulphide for oil recovery.

The company has also applied to build a 19.77 km pipeline to carry salt water.

Public hearings will be held on Nov. 18 and 25 at Govier Hall in Calgary.
