Residents are welcome to register for the Truth and Reconciliation Sharing Circle on Oct. 23, 2019.
In response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s report from 2015, the event encourages visitors to participate in the morning and evening sessions.
In a statement, Mayor Don Scott said the exercise would help the region move forward toward reconciliation.
“The sharing circle offers an opportunity for residents from across the region to come together to discuss Truth and Reconciliation and help identify ways that we, as a community, can continue this important work together.”
The Municipality engaged with Indigenous communities on reconciliation since 2017.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission believes collaborative discussions at the sharing circle would identify calls to action to redress the legacy of residential schools and help guide the RMWB in the right direction.
Some of the themes participants shall discuss are language, youth, programs and services, Indigenous engagement, and inclusion.
The Truth and Reconciliation Sharing Circle scheduled two sessions on Oct. 23 in the Shell Place Grand Ballroom at Macdonald Island.
Both sessions are free and open to the public.
The morning session begins at 9 a.m., while the evening session starts at 6 p.m.
