Mayor Don Scott said Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg is welcome to visit Wood Buffalo.
The world-renown teen activist announced she would participate in a demonstration in Edmonton, Alta., on Oct. 18, 2019.
In a statement, Mayor Don Scott said if the Municipality would welcome Thunberg if she desired to visit the region.
“I have always been an advocate for listening to our youth’s voices, and if Ms Thunberg plans to visit the region, I would invite her to meet with our Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Youth.”
Otherwise known as MACOY, the youth-led committee speaks on issues and decisions like climate change that affect them.
Mayor Don Scott said these actively engaged citizens play a vital role in our community.
“MACOY members are champions of the community, who work to improve the quality of life in our region.”
As of publishing, there is no word if Thunberg plans to visit Wood Buffalo and the oilsands.
