The lockout of 46 Wood Buffalo Housing (WBH) employees is over.

CUPE Local 1505 members voted to ratify a new collective agreement, thereby ending the five-month-long lockout.

Moving forward

Bargaining teams from both sides met from Oct. 4-7, 2019.

On the last day of discussions, the Labour Board-appointed mediator made recommendations to CUPE 1505.

On Oct. 16, union members voted to accept the proposal.

In a statement, WBH President and CEO Henry Hunter said they are happy to welcome back its employees.

“It has been a long five months, for our employees, our tenants, and the community, but we feel confident that this new collective agreement will help Wood Buffalo Housing on our path to achieving a sustainable future.”

Hunter also said returning employees will start on Oct. 23, 2019.

“We look forward to moving forward together and continuing our work of ensuring that every person in Wood Buffalo has access to safe and affordable housing.”
