David Yurdiga elected as MP for Fort McMurray-Cold Lake

David Yurdiga has been voted in for another term as Member of Parliament (MP).

As of 9:30 p.m. Yurdiga held 80 per cent of votes in the Fort McMurray-Cold Lake Riding.

One man said that he voted Conservative because he believes in the party’s stance when it comes to the oil industry.

“I voted for David Yurdiga point blank. He’s standing up for the oil sands. I work in the oil sands. This is where I live. This is where I work.”

He added that he’s frustrated that laws are making it harder for oil to get to market saying banning tankers is “an Alberta oil ban.”

Nationally, the Liberals took an early lead, but ended up neck-and-neck with the Conservatives eventually taking a minority government with 157 seats.

Justin Trudeau’s Liberals will need another party – likely the NDP and its 24 seats – to survive a confidence vote on a throne speech and to pass legislation in Parliament.
