Mayor Don Scott reflected on the release of the first provincial budget by the United Conservatives.

In a statement, he said he understands the province had tough decisions to make.

“I believe we have a Premier and provincial government that understand the value of our region and its vital importance to the economic success of Alberta and Canada as a whole.”

Mayor Scott added he looks forward to seeing the government make Alberta more competitive and attractive to business and investors.

Opportunities for young people

Mayor Don Scott looks to programs like the Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation and CAREERS: The Next Generation.

Despite challenging years, he said both programs connect students with apprenticeships in the industry that lead to rewarding careers.

“While community and social services and children’s services will see increased funding, and health care and education funding levels will be maintained, we are concerned about the Budget’s implications for municipalities and infrastructure development in our region.”

Mayor Don Scott said he and RMWB Council will review the budget in greater detail to understand its full impacts.

“Council remains committed to continued dialogue and collaboration with the Province to ensure that our region continues to be the economic driver for all of Alberta.”

The next RMWB Council meeting takes place on Nov. 19, 2019.
