Legion’s Remembrance Day ceremony to be held at MacDonald Island Park

MacDonald Island Park is the host venue for Monday’s Remembrance Day ceremony.

The annual ceremony, held by Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 165, will take place at the CNOOC Nexen Field House.

Legion President Pat Duggan says the event is about more than what Canadian soldiers have done in the past.

“It’s also a good focus point for Canadians to realize what Canada does outside of our own borders as well in supporting the national community. The important thing is if we’re going to send people to do things on our behalf then we must be able to look after them when they return.”

Representatives from various community groups including Wood Buffalo RCMP, Fort McMurray Army Cadet Corps 2803 and 868 Rotary Northstar Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron will be in attendance.

Doors open at 8:30 a.m. and the ceremony will start at 9:30 a.m.

The ceremony will continue at the Legion located at 9317 Huggard St. in Waterways at roughly 10:30 a.m.

The poppy campaign will running until Nov. 11.
