Suncor Energy took another step its digital transformation by annoucing a partnership with Microsoft Canada.
The multi-year strategic alliance enables the oilsands giant access to Microsoft’s cloud-based solutions.
Mark Little, Suncor president and CEO, said this would enable them to become a more connected and collaborative workforce.
“This is an example of how we are driving to improve our business in ways that were not possible before: To make our people safer, increase reliability and productivity, reduce costs and improve sustainability.”
Little added Suncor would make the move towards cloud-based computing with the preferred program, Microsoft Azure.
He also expects Azure to increase productivity, machine learning, enable the use of new technologies and enhance automation.
“Although we are an industry leader in many respects, we still have much to learn in the digital space, which is why we’re working with a number of organizations including Microsoft to challenge us.”
Little said Suncor chose to partner with Microsoft as they are experts in data and digital innovation.
President of Microsoft Canada, Kevin Peesker said the tech giant is proud to aid Suncor on its digital journey.

Little said Suncor hopes to improve employee relations and customer service through this strategic alliance.
