The Wood Buffalo Food Bank (WBFB) is setting the bar hire for the annual Syncrude Food Drive.

They are looking to raise $300,000 in monetary donations and 80,000 pounds of food.

Anna Noble, WBFB communications and development manager says the annual event is crucial as the food bank has gone through some set backs.

“Donations have definitely gone down while the need is still high, so its even more important that we try to fill these shelves especially at winter time when people utilize our services more.”

Kicking things off is the 27th annual corporate challenge happening on Nov. 28 from 7 am till 7 pm.

People can call into Country 93.3 (780) 790-0933 and 97.9 ROCK (780) 791-0979 and make a pledge and challenge others in the community to donate as well.

The food drive will be taking place over three days Friday, Nov. 29 from 11 am to 9 pm, November 30 from 9 am to 9 pm and Sunday, Dec.1 9 am to 7 pm.

Volunteers will be stationed alongside H. Wilsons Trucks at all the grocery stores including Walmart and Anzac Grocery.

Noble says volunteers are greatly needed.

“It takes about 600 volunteers throughout the whole weekend to make this run so if people can give time we are more than thankful for that.”

Volunteer registration can be done on their website.
