Accident near Mariana Lake closes Highway 63

RCMP continue their investigation into a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 63 near Mariana Lake.

At 6:20 p.m. on Nov. 15, 2019, police received multiple reports of semi-tractors stuck in the ditch and blocking the southbound lanes of Hwy 63 near kilometre marker-165.

They received a report of a multi-vehicle collision involving a car and another semi-tractor also in that area.

Due to freezing rain, police described road conditions as extremely icy.

Police temporarily closed all southbound lanes on Hwy 63 while emergency crews tended the scene and removed the vehicles blocking the roadway.

They also diverted southbound traffic at Hwy 881.

According to Alberta 511, Wood Buffalo RCMP reopened the roadway shortly after 1:49 a.m. on Nov. 16, 2019.
