Those looking for counselling services in our region will have additional support.

This summer, a review of the region’s counselling services was conducted and outlined recommendations for improvement including increasing funding and support for counselling agencies.

Currently there are four counsellors already funded within the RMWB and in 2020 counselling services will increase in Fort McMurray and the rural communities.

Funding for Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) in the Municipality will transition to Waypoints and the Legacy Counselling Centre through the Community Investment Program.

The funding will enable Waypoints to fund three counsellors and Legacy Counselling Centre to fund two.

“The FCSS funding will ensure our counselling programs have an even broader reach than before, and we are thrilled to be able to expand our counselling services,” said Michele Taylor, Executive Director, Waypoints.

The RMWB will continue working closely with both agencies to ensure a smooth transition for existing and future clients.

“We are pleased to receive the FCSS funding through the Community Investment Program, and look forward to seeing the positive impact this change in service has on the community,” said Del Bouck, spokesperson for Legacy Counselling Centre’s Board of Directors.
