One of Wood Buffalo’s family support centre plans to apply for a new contract with the province.

Located in downtown Fort McMurray, The Hub Family Resource Centre announced they would apply for funding under Alberta’s new Family Resource Networks model.

The Hub received word in November the province would terminate its Parent Link Centre contracts as of March 31, 2020.

The intention of Family Resource Networks is to support families with children between the ages of zero and 18.

Uncertain of what the changes may bring, Executive Director for The Hub, Samantha Simpson said they are optimistic.

“Financial assistance from the Province has been a substantial piece of the Hub’s funding model for several years and while the new changes allow for some uncertainty, the Hub remains optimistic and is excited for the opportunity to work collaboratively with other agencies and support families even further under the Family Resource Network model.”

Simpson said while they review its requirements and process, she added The Hub fully intend to submit an application for the new model.

Since 2003, the resource centre provided programs and services for thousands of families in Wood Buffalo.
