The Northern Lights Health Foundation (NLHF) announced they retained its accreditation under Imagine Canada’s National Standards Program.
Held since 2014, the NLHF joins more than 245 organizations across Canada.
Charities and social profits commit to a set of standards and practices in five key areas.
Those areas are board governance, financial accountability and transparency, fundraising, staff management, and volunteer involvement.
“The Health Foundation Board takes great pride in knowing that our staff and Board team are operating at the highest level with personal and professional accountability for our decisions and actions.” Said Melanie Antoine, NLHF Board Chair.
Organizations like the NLHF must complete the full re-accreditation process on a five-year basis.
Bruce MacDonald, President and CEO of Imagine Canada, said the application process is rigorous and in-depth.
He added its goal is to reaffirm Canadians’ trust and confidence in the nonprofit sector.
“Receiving the Trustmark is a testimony to an organization’s commitment to maintaining the highest level of integrity, efficiency and transparency in their practices. We are honoured to count these well-deserving recipients in Imagine Canada’s Standards Program community, and proud to join them in celebrating their remarkable achievement.”
This accreditation runs from 2019 to 2024, and include annual reviews from peers and other volunteers.
NLHF Executive Director Cindy Amerongen the process also requires reviewing policies, maintaining ethics, and operating with transparency.
“Donors can be assured that in addition to complying with all of the legal requirements for Canadian charities under Canada Revenue Agency, and adhering to our Bylaws as defined under the Alberta Regional Health Authorities Foundations Regulation, the Northern Lights Health Foundation has taken the additional step of seeking external validation and accreditation.”
The NLHF began in 1985 funding essential medical equipment, programs and service through campaigns, events, and fundraising initiatives.
