After a delay, the Fort Chipewyan Winter Road will open for the 2019-20 season on Dec. 19.
The road officially opens at 8:00 a.m.
Motorists with light vehicles weighing 5,000 kilograms or less may travel on the road.
Overly heavy vehicles could damage the road leading to safety hazards and delays in opening the road for other motorists.
Maintenance is ongoing and crews and equipment will continue to work on sections of roadway.
Stay on the right side of the road, especially on hills for enhanced safety, follow posted signage, and drive at reduced speeds of 30 km/h when passing equipment.
There are no regular services like road patrols, gas stations, and cellphone coverage on the road.
