RCMP arrest pair on theft-related charges

Wood Buffalo RCMP recovered what they determined to be a large amount of stolen property.

On Dec. 10, 2019, the Crime Reduction Unit began to conduct a traffic stop with a vehicle later confirmed stolen.

However, the vehicle fled from police, stopped a short time later, and the two occupants inside fled on foot.

RCMP recovered the vehicle and the large volume of stolen items inside.

Police located both individuals with the assistance of the Police Dog Service.

They arrested 40-year-old Cody Richard Stephen of Edmonton and 31-year-old Teryl Lisa Burk, and brought the pair before a Judicial Justice of the Peace for a bail hearing.

Stephen and Burk face numerous charges including possession of property obtained by crime, break and enter, mischief and possession of a controlled substance.

Wood Buffalo RCMP also charged them with resisting a peace officer and failing to comply.

Police ask anyone who is a victim of property crime or has information about this type of criminal activity to contact the detachment at (780) 788-4000.
