CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland was in Calgary today and met with both Premier Jason Kenney and Mayor Naheed Nenshi.
“We had a fair and frank exchange of views,” commented Nenshi.
“It was actually a terrific conversation.”
Nenshi said that his conversation with Freeland included trade, fair deals, infrastructure and what he believes is Calgary’s most important issue.
“But, really, our conversation was focused on the things the Federal government can be doing to help us with our number one priority which is job creation and attraction and retention here in Calgary.”

Nenshi also said he brought up the idea of possible federal assistance regarding the funding of the green line and said he will continue to push for Calgary’s behalf.
“I’ve been really pushing the federal government to get more engaged with us in economic development for some time and I’m really interested to see how the federal government can help tell Calgary’s story as well.”
Kenney, on the other hand, said he would like to see more done.
“I appreciate the continued outreach by the government of Canada, however, Albertans do want to see some concrete action.”
However, he said the Deputy Minister’s visit speaks for her motivations.
“I appreciate Minister Freeland’s openness to listen. We had a constructive meeting, I believe, with the Prime Minister in December.”

Freeland said she plans on continuing the topics discussed at the federal level.
“Starting to really roll up our sleeves and get some concrete things done (…). We are continuing to work hard on methane.”
