To celebrate the winter season hockey players of all ages can take part in the “Shootout on the Snye.”

The puck drops on Friday, Feb. 28 and the annual pond hockey tournament will continue all weekend as a key event at WinterPLAY.

The four-on-four pond hockey tournament welcomes teams of four to six players in all divisions starting at age 5.

Registration is $30 per player before Jan.  31, and for $40 per player until Feb. 16, when registration closes.

Winter festival

WinterPLAY takes place from Feb. 28 to Sunday, March 1 with lots of volunteer opportunities available.

The Municipality is on the lookout for WinterPLAYGROUND attendants, petting zoo helpers, and food vendors.

There would be many mouths to feed during the winter festival, so the RMWB encourages community non-profit organizations to provide tasty treats.

Residents with a sporting background may also volunteer to referee at Shootout on the Snye.

Finally, residents may participate in the talent show.

Adults and youth may sign up online to showcase their talents to Wood Buffalo with prizes going to the top three performers in both categories.

More information about this family event celebrating the winter season and northern culture is available on the Municipality’s website.
