RMWB Emergency Services receive international acclaim

Regional Emergency Services (RES) received a high distinction for its response to emergencies.

The 911 Emergency Communications Centre received International Academies of Emergency Dispatch® (IAED™) status as an Accredited Centre of Excellence (ACE)

The centre is only the 276th centre to attain such distinction thanks to its use of the Medical Priority Dispatch System™ (MPDS®).

Regional Fire Chief Jody Butz thanked emergency services and the telecommunications team for serving at a world-class level.

“Accomplishing the status of a Medical Accredited Centre of Excellence through the Academies of Emergency Dispatch is a milestone achievement that we have been working on that assists in serving the region at the highest standard.”

For RES to receive accreditation, they must meet or exceed the IAED’s Twenty Points of Accreditation.

Everyone from the department chief to the emergency dispatcher must show industry-best and efficient use of resources in handling emergency call situations.

The IAED found workers at our communications centre bring peace of mind to callers and convey that they properly addressed their concerns.

“There’s a tremendous amount of work that goes into achieving ACE status.” Said IAED Chair of Accreditation Christof C. Chwojka. “We’re certainly proud of RMWB’s Regional Emergency Services and its accomplishment.”

The 911 Emergency Communications Centre, which employs full-time and casual workers, takes approximately 28,000 requests annually.

Alberta joins Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and P.E.I. as the only provinces covered with Medical ACE agencies.

There are 28 ACE dispatch agencies in Canada, with a further 260 with ACE distinction around the world.
