Kim Rizzi has been named the General Manager of the 2022 Arctic Winter Games (AWG).

The municipality and Wood Buffalo 2022 Arctic Winter Games Host Society made the announcement Jan. 24.

Rizzi is seconded to the Games by her employer, Suncor.

She has over 30 years of global experience with multi-sport events and also played a role in bringing the games to our region.

Her experience ranges from mission staff to being the general manager for the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games hosted by the RMWB as well as the 2002 AWG held in Iqaluit Nunavut and Nuuk, Greenland.

Rizzi said she’s honoured to accept the position.

“I’m very passionate about these Games and all they represent for the community. This multi-sport event represents teamwork, while highlighting the cultural and historic experience of sport. The Wood Buffalo Region is rich in our culture and we are excited to showcase that internationally.”

Her term will start Jan. 27, 2020.

The Arctic Winter Games are the largest northern multi-sport and culture event in the world.

The region will host the games from March 6-12, 2022.
