Motorists should plan ahead as the province makes a special delivery to site.

A 96-metre-long evaporator or pressure vessel, which treats water for steam generators, will leave Edmonton on Jan. 26, 2020.

It stands at nine metres wide and 11.6 metres high.

Along with the load are escort vehicles, which will drive at the posted speed limit and may occasionally pull over.

The province said drivers should expect delays, and watch for road crews and blocked off lanes.

Itinerary

On Jan. 26, the vessel leaves Dacro Yard in Edmonton, Alta. at 10 p.m. and should arrive at Hwy. 14 and Hwy 21 by 5 a.m. the next morning.

After a day of rest, road crews transport the wide load to Two Hills, reaching the Radway Visitor Info Centre by Jan. 29, at 5 p.m.

Following a drive to the May Tower Rest Area, the province estimated the pressure vessel would reach Fort McMurray by 5 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2020.

Finally, the load arrives at Voyager Overpass at 8 p.m. on Feb. 1, concluding the week-long journey.
