The load limit on the Fort Chipewyan Winter Road has increased to 20,000 kg.
The announcement comes only days after the municipality said it hired a contractor to speed up the ice building process at the Des Rochers river crossing.
Crews will be using a spray technique to accelerate the freezing of water. Each spray should take between 45 and 90 minutes multiple times a day.
The process may cause periodic closures of the west and east crossings.
The municipality said that fuel continues to be hauled into Fort Chipewyan using smaller vehicles.
It also said that ATCO and other suppliers have an over 30 day supply for the community.
Further increases remain a priority for the municipality.
