Mayor and Councillors will receive a proposal addressing Fort McMurray’s waterfront.

RMWB Council meets on March 10 to hear a recommendation from the Wood Buffalo Waterfront Advisory Committee (WBWAC)

Liana Wheeldon shall propose a year-round outdoor event space located at Syne Point Park.

Struck in November 2019, the WBWAC reviewed ideas compiled between May and September 2019 in downtown revitalization engagement sessions.

They also reviewed past RMWB Council documents.

On Feb. 19, 2020, committee members unanimously recommended to Council a year-round event space including supporting facilities and appropriate utilities.

RMWB Council approved a total of $30-million over three years toward design and construction of a waterfront park project.

Supported by the administration, the project would work alongside other approved waterfront initiatives in 2020.

If approved, the WBWAC would discuss its exact location and scope with stakeholders in a public design charrette process.

Mayor and Councillors shall also meet to discuss appointing a Councillor to the province’s Oil Sands Engagement Committee.

The committee meets twice per year to advise on the coordination of planning, funding, and construction of infrastructure, rail and traffic in the oilsands.

RMWB Council would vote on appointing Councillor Jeff Peddle to the committee.

Council’s budget allocation for business travel would absorb any associated travel costs.

The March 10 meeting, which begins at 4:00 p.m., also features a presentation from the Downtown Revitalization Advisory Committee.
