Five new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Alberta

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — There have been five new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Alberta, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 19.

Provincial officials confirming the new cases Wednesday afternoon.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw confirming three of the cases are in the Calgary zone, one in the Edmonton zone, and one in the Central zone.

The three Calgary cases include a man in his 20s and two women in their 30s, all remain in isolation.

A man in his 30s from the Edmonton zone is now in self-isolation after testing positive for the disease on March 9.

The fifth new case is a woman in her 30s from the Central zone who also is in isolation.

All five of the new cases had recently returned from visiting countries that include Iran, Egypt, Spain, Mexico and the United States.

“Effective immediately, Alberta will now be asking any travellers who have visited Italy in the last 14 days to self-isolate until two weeks have passed since that visit. These individuals should stay home and away from others, even if they are feeling well. Similar precautions are already in place for travellers returning from Iran and Hubei province, China,” the province said in a release Wednesday.
