The Government of Alberta is allowing some child care facilities to reopen across the province.

The spots will open to those considered to be core service workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Fort McMurray there are five centres that will reopen to a maximum of 30 children and staff.

Lauren Armstrong with the Office of the Minister of Children’s Services said that contact information for the centres has been given to Alberta Health Services and the municipality.

Those organizations will then determine who they consider to be core service workers, which could include doctors, nurses, paramedics and water treatment plant operators.

Children of other service providers, like police officers and firefighters will be added in the next phase.

Across the province 15,000 spots will be reopened.
