Premier Jason Kenney announced 117 new cases of the virus in the province bringing the total to 871.
He also reported two more deaths from COVID-19 to bring that total in Alberta to 11.
The province reported no new cases of COVID-19 in the RMWB.
All three cases reside within Fort McMurray’s urban service area.
Kenney explained the increase in new cases is due to Alberta Health Services processing a backlog of over 4000 cases.
After clearing the backlog, Kenney said they can now run at full capacity.
This marks the largest amount in a single day for the province since the start of the outbreak in Alberta on March 6, 2020.
AHS North Zone reported two new cases and the death of a man in his 80s from COVID-19.
This brings the total in the North Zone to 51 cases and two deaths.
Calgary Zone also reported a man in his 80s died from COVID-19.
