Parents encouraged to highlight students working from home through hashtag

Fort McMurray Public School Division is encouraging parents and guardians to highlight students working at home by using #ABLearningatHome and #FMPSDLearningAtHome.

The hashtag #ABLearningAtHome was initiated by the College of Alberta School Superintendents and is trending in Canada.

It highlights education efforts made by students, parents and teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jennifer Turner FMPSD Superintendent said the campaign is being used to capture “precious moments” of learning at home.

“There truly are no words to capture my gratitude. In just a month, I’ve seen this community’s spirit, and it’s amazing.”

Purva Sharma and Vanessa McMahon both have students in the division who are learning from home.

They’ve expressed appreciation for support being provided by teachers.

“Niko is in grade 3. His teacher, Mrs. Enwood has been amazing. She has sent home appropriate, manageable work that is fun and easily completed at home. She reminded us that it isn’t necessary to complete everything and that it should not add stress to our family. It is organized and clearly laid out.” said McMahon.

Sharma said FMPSD has done what’s best for the kids throughout the situation.
